Volunteer Handoff Checklist – Not a Fit for This Team

To be completed when a volunteer does not align with the team’s needs or dynamics

1. Discernment & Clarity

• [ ] Hold a friendly, honest conversation with the volunteer about team alignment
• [ ] Affirm their desire to serve and thank them for their openness
• [ ] Gently explain why the current team may not be the right fit
• [ ] Reinforce that this is part of a healthy discovery process—not a rejection

2. Handoff to Connections Team

• [ ] Inform the Connections Director or Team Lead of the volunteer’s availability
• [ ] Provide a short summary (strengths, interests, concerns) to help with placement
• [ ] If needed, offer suggestions for other teams or environments that may be a better fit

3. Encourage the Volunteer

• [ ] Reaffirm their value to the church
• [ ] Encourage them to stay engaged and explore other teams
• [ ] Let them know Connections will reach out for next steps
